I'm a young English teacher/ Artist who loves recreation and expression. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Fashion Design and I'm working to grow my brand while Teaching English in Thailand for a year. I wanted a break from hunting for jobs and "getting my life together" so I decided that a year of inspiration and discovery is just what I need. It has been amazing.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COUNTRY SO FAR?
I’ve made my way to 10 countries outside of the Unites States and Thailand is my absolute favorite. I love that it is so different from the US. I wanted a culture shock and I have found it.
WHAT PLACE IS TOP OF YOUR BUCKET LIST?
Definitely places with strong natural wonders and a mysterious magic about them. Iceland is a must, I would also love to reach the Himalayas and New Zealand.
WHAT CAN'T YOU TRAVEL WITHOUT?
My camera. It’s rare that my camera and I are apart. I hope to document as much as possible so I can share and try and recreate my visual experience with friends and family back home.
DO YOU PREFER SOLO TRAVEL OR WITH SOMEONE ELSE?
I think when I’m older I will really enjoy traveling with a partner. However! I have been growing through adventuring by myself. At first it was intimidating but now I’ve gotten very good at it. I love being able to enjoy my own company. I love controlling all my own plans. I love having the freedom to stop all my plans and romance a new love for a few days. If I had friends with me this would be impossible.
WHO IS THE PERSON AT HOME THAT YOU MISS THE MOST?
I miss my little brother. He is the best person on this earth and he had his 21st Birthday while I was abroad. I can’t wait to go bar hopping with him when I’m back home.
WHICH COUNTRY HAS THE MOST FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE?
The Turkish are the most hospitable I’ve met by far. I stayed with many “friends of a friends” and all of them without second though, give me their bed to sleep in and their clothes for pajamas. They sleep in a different room while letting you have the most comfortable place to rest. It’s touching.
WHO IS THE MOST INTERESTING PERSON YOU'VE MET SO FAR?
This is a difficult question. In Italy I was sitting in a park alone and reading a magazine when this older man who spoke practically no english, said he’d like to draw me. He had a speech impediment and stuttered so nervous to talk to me. It was endearing. He wanted to draw me and braid my hair. I didn’t know he was going to be full corn rolls braids, but I had the free time so We sat in the park for hours, he meticulously braided my hair for free and then took photos of the finished product at the end and was so happy. An interesting soul.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR SCARIEST MOMENT?
The scariest moment was when I was almost fired for my teaching job and deported. I took cough medicine the morning of our school’ routine pee test and the results came up positive for meth. Thankfully all I had to do was show them the pills I took and they let me stay.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
When I had to explain to this hostel and the Thai police that I lost my rental motorbike because I got so drunk I forgot where I parked it. We took a tuk tuk home so I had no clue. Luckily it turned up 4 days later at a hotel parking lot.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST USEFUL ITEM YOU'VE BOUGHT?
My notebook. It helps me learn a language by writing it down. I have emails jotted down, directions, phone numbers. Sometimes I write my dreams down. It’s a great account for my time abroad.
WHAT'S THE BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE YOU'VE RECEIVED?
Don’t look at all cultures through American (or your home countries) eyes. Put on culture accepting goggles. Know that people will think and behave differently try to understand it rather than compare.
WHAT'S THE LONGEST YOU'VE BEEN AWAY FROM HOME?
This is the longest I’ve been away because it was my first opportunity to. I left three months after I finished college and I’ve been traveling for 10 months now.
WHAT'S YOUR DREAM JOB?
Locally famous Fashion Designer who also designs costumes for movies, directs music videos, coaches soccer, and teaches art.
WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO LIVE IN THE WORLD?
I’ve always said I’d love to live in Hawaii. The though of waking up before work everyday and swimming with tropic fish really appeals to me. I’ll settle for anywhere near an ocean or lake.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TRAVEL MEMORY?
My entire family went on a cruise to Mexico together. So 20 cousins all running around a ship together was quite lovely. Our youngest cousin Clayton, was convinced (by his older brothers) to ask the Mexican pharmacist for viagra. He was maybe 6 at the time and the man said “No! um your are too young!” and we thought this was hilarious.
WHAT'S THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU'VE LEARNED?
I didn’t know people lived on Madagascar.
That was pretty exciting to find out.
IF YOU WROTE A NOVEL, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I am writing a novel, It’s about my “sex-scapades” it’s also about love.
WHAT TRAVEL SCAMS HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT?
I took a bus from Phuket to the port for Koh Samui and the bus drops all the foreigners at the smaller port that only operate maybe 4 ferry rides a day. They rush us to this company that ensures us, we can make the last ferry from the correct port if we pay them to shuttle us and leave immediately. They pressured the other tourists and succeeded but I refused. I had to wait 5 hours then take an overnight boat to the island instead of getting dropped off at the right place to begin with.
DO YOU CALL YOURSELF A TOURIST OR A TRAVELLER?
I’m a traveler for sure. I don’t want to experience what is comfortable or what I’m used to. I want to soak up the culture so I can bring a better version of myself back home.
STRICT SCHEDULE OR GO WITH THE FLOW?
I plan everything out. I want to squeeze everything into the little time I have.
WHAT'S BEEN THE BEST STREET FOOD YOU'VE HAD?
The best food was this turkish beef dish I ate that came with bread to soak of the juices and yogurt for dipping.
WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING THING YOU'VE DONE?
Passing my sewing class in college. I took it three times before my skills were advanced enough. It’s quite disheartening having the same teacher fail you twice. But now I’m stronger from it.
DO YOU THINK YOU'LL STAY FRIENDS WITH THE PEOPLE YOU'VE MET?
I have gathered up a wonderful bunch of lifelong friends here. I have promised dozens of them I’ll come visit and all of them are welcome to stay at my home in San Francisco. I’m coming back to Thailand when my best friend here gets married one day.
WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING ANIMAL YOU'VE SEEN?
I used to have a pet fish that has lips that jutted out from his face and had hinges that folded when he breathed. Almost robotic, it was so cool.
WHO IS YOUR DREAM TRAVEL COMPANION?
Of course I would love to share these experience with a love. You learn a lot about people when you travel together. It was also be a dream to travel with my brother and cousins again.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM TRAVELING EXPERIENCE?
My dream is happening now. I’m getting paid in a foreign country and vacationing every chance I get.

WHAT CAN YOU ADVICE TO PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO START TRAVELING?
Make sure you have plenty of savings, I rushed my departure and have to worry about money constantly now. It is alright to spend three or more months working to ensure your time abroad will be comfortable and carefree.
