WHAT IS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
Embarrassing moment.....on the way back from Suriname on the airplane, there were Hindustani passengers, a big family. One of their elderly relatives died during the long flight, they had been expecting it, and they did a Hindu ceremony a few rows behind us. They had dropped a small glass vial containing sacred herbs and water, onto the floor, and as it rolled by my feet, I picked it up,and tried to hand it back, not realizing that it was supposed to be on the ground and I had interrupted their ritual. They all looked at me angrily, and that was embarrassing, yeah!
WHO IS THE MOST INTERESTING PERSON YOU'VE MET SO FAR?

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR SCARIEST MOMENT?
That's easy! Riding with 2 other people on the back of a motorbike through the rush hour traffic of Bangkok! I did it at first at night, and that wasn't so bad because the traffic was not so heavy, and the darkness and all the neon and bright lights made it like a fairground ride. But in the day? Oooooh, especially on the freeway where people drive so crazily! When we stopped and got off, the back of our friend's t-shirt was soaked with my fear-sweat! Soooo glad I did it though! Might do it again!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TRAVEL MEMORY?
Never went abroad until I was 20, so all our holidays when I was little were in the UK. My favorite memory is of a place called Llantwit Major in the Gower Peninsula in Wales. The beach was long and sandy with hundreds of tiny iridescent blue/green seashells, and there were rock pools. It was the mid 70s and there were no shops or ice-cream stalls, it was like being on a caribbean beach, no one else to be see, I thought I was in a pirate film!!

WHAT TRAVEL SCAMS HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT?
Ahhhh, we heard about gem scams (where people take you to a jewelers shop in Bangkok to buy precious stones which are fake...) and tuk-tuks, my daughter and I just jumped out by a red light when we saw that the driver was not going to our place and arguing about money, lol. We nearly got ripped off by motor cycle hire shop in Ko Phangan, but kind local people and tourist police helped us, and we got away with paying inly 1000 baht, when they wanted 16,000 baht! Phew! Tip, if in Had Salad ONLY rent bikes from Sawaddee Kha, all the other shops will try to rip u off, they are owned by the same people!
DO YOU CALL YOURSELF A TOURIST OR A TRAVELLER?
Hmmmm, I think somewhere in between. I haven't travelled from country to country to call myself a traveller (yet!) but on the other hand, tourists don't always behave well or respect local people. When I go to a new country or place, I like to explore off the beaten track, to try a few words of the language, find interesting local places to eat and drink, and soak up the atmosphere. Having said that, places are popular for a reason, if you go to Paris, you have to see the Eiffel Tower of course!
STRICT SCHEDULE OR GO WITH THE FLOW?
Definitely go with the flow. Okay, a loose schedule like, okay, today we are going to see this or that, but I like to allow for surprises!

WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING THING YOU'VE DONE?
The most challenging thing for me was going on holiday alone at age 39.I really needed a break, but nobody could get free time, so I decided to go by myself, 4 days in Barcelona! It was fantastic! First I thought that it would look odd, a woman on her own, but no, there were lots of single women staying at the hostel I was at, I made friends with a really interesting Iranian woman, and spent the next two days with her. I also worried about being older, but again, no, plenty of other older ladies having a great time. And in Thailand we met loads of single girls and women which gives me confidence to go it alone in the future!
DO YOU THINK YOU'LL STAY FRIENDS WITH THE PEOPLE YOU'VE MET?
