Meeting people is one of the things i look forward to the most in my travels and finding about where they are from, learning about their culture and sharing what I know about Thailand. I have been very fortunate to meet many cool and fun people with amazing attitude and characters. Traveling teaches us new things, to learn to respect each other's differences and to understand that the world is really quite simple, it is just the hang-ups of we human that make things complicated. We meeting new friends during our travel-- we learn from them and vice versa, some of theme leave an enduring memory in our heart.
Me and my friends decided to spend a weekend getaway and we chose the beautiful beaches of Samet Island. Four of my friends had travelled there ahead of us, meanwhile, since Vanessa and I had partied hard last night, we are rushing to pack our bags and reach Ekkamai Bus Terminal in time to catch the bus to Rayong Province. Luckily, despite a long line at the ticket office, we make it on time, and soon we are on our way south to our destination. For the first couple of hours it seems we are stuck in a huge traffic jam, but eventually we make it out into the countryside and the scenery passing by outside the bus windows becomes much more interesting. The crystal blue of the southern lakes, the brightly painted houses, the energy of a rural road construction crew all serve to get us in the holiday mood.
After a long bus ride we arrived at one of the ferry piers at the southern tip of Rayong Province and found the ticketing office (all the walls plastered with posters offering tours, cheap hotels, bars and some cool water sports activities) and got tickets for the boat to Samet Island. I love the boat rides because the boat goes very fast and skips over the waves - I know it makes some travelers somewhat sick and scared, but I adore the energy of it. Soon we come in sight of Samet Island with a beautiful panoramic view of the resorts and stunning, white sand beaches dropping off into deep ocean water.
Spending the spring days on the beautiful island of Samet with friends. How happy I am when I feel the heat of the sun on my skin and can relax and sunbathe, chill and chitchat with friends and, of course, luxuriate in the beautiful island sunsets.
A beautiful night to remember and as-usual meeting new friends isn't hard. I believe that if I am true to myself and remain confident, and engage with people through love, not fear, things will always turn out alright. So many sweet young travelers who are extremely nice. True, they are often curious and ask a lot of personal questions. but it doesn't really bother me. I believe I meet people for a reason, and the things they learn from me, they can share with others. In the same way that I share with my friends, what I learn from them.
As the night wore on, there were fewer questions and we focused on having fun. Dancing, singing, watching the bar-tenders make fancy drinks, playing beer pong team against team was really fun, the losing team members had to belly-crawl like soldiers at bootcamp over the rough ground under the tables. We won once but we lost twice, so sad to say our team had to crawl under the tables but learned quickly that we had to be extra careful, because not only is the ground rough, but the under-surface of the tables are full sharp nails! We made it through though!
It was a lovely getaway holiday for the weekend, full of excitement. Thank you, Koh Samet, for such an awesome adventure and for the good memories for me and my friends (and thanks to all my new found friends whose names I can't remember because of a bit too much to drink).
Thank you Koh Samet .... SEE YOU SOON. Until next time.
